Rangers narrowly scraped past Kilmarnock on Boxing Day courtesy of Alfredo Morelos' strike from the substitutes bench.

With the Old Firm derby looming on Sunday it was absolutely vital for Steven Gerrard's side to collect three points, and they will be delighted with the result even if the performance was nothing to write home about.

Killie offered little by way of attacking ambition and the hosts had to be patient in their bid to break the deadlock.

Joe Aribo turned provider for the seventh time in the league this season, slotting Morelos through on goal with a short pass and the Colombia international did the rest with a stabbed finish into the back of the net.

The former Charlton ace's display was one of the more outstanding individual contributions on the day and fans were eager to pay tribute on social media.

Some fans have praised Gerrard's decision to move him further forward and into a wider position in recent weeks and they suggested it's one which suits the player.

Aribo has scored one goal and provided three assists in his last three games for the club - all of which he started from the right.

And, such was the quality of Aribo's performance, a handful of fans named him as their man of the match on the day.

Others, meanwhile, were much more generic in their praise but both of these supporters alluded to the idea that the 23-year-old is starting to trust himself in this division.

And, as is customary on social media, one fan fully immersed himself in the realm of hyperbole...
