Rangers narrowly scraped past Kilmarnock on Boxing Day courtesy of Alfredo Morelos’ strike from the substitutes bench.
With the Old Firm derby looming on Sunday it was absolutely vital for Steven Gerrard’s side to collect three points, and they will be delighted with the result even if the performance was nothing to write home about.
Killie offered little by way of attacking ambition and the hosts had to be patient in their bid to break the deadlock.
Joe Aribo turned provider for the seventh time in the league this season, slotting Morelos through on goal with a short pass and the Colombia international did the rest with a stabbed finish into the back of the net.
The former Charlton ace’s display was one of the more outstanding individual contributions on the day and fans were eager to pay tribute on social media.
Some fans have praised Gerrard’s decision to move him further forward and into a wider position in recent weeks and they suggested it’s one which suits the player.
A goal, 2 assists and 2 Man Of The Match performances in the last 2 games for big Aribo, the move to an advanced position is working beautifully pic.twitter.com/uZFdih5Kje

Fair play to Gerrard moving Joe Aribo over to RW has been nothing short of a masterstroke.
Aribos been incredible every game since

Aribo has scored one goal and provided three assists in his last three games for the club – all of which he started from the right.

With that knowledge in mind, it’s easy to understand why the decision has been described as a “masterstroke” by one fan.
And, such was the quality of Aribo’s performance, a handful of fans named him as their man of the match on the day.
Difficult to break down a team lacking any ambition. A deserved win for the famous. Aribo my motm today.

Aribo MOTM,class today and has been excellent these past few games excited to see what he’ll do against celtic.

Aribo for me, patience was really needed today since Killie went back to Anti-football, the first half was like watching a training session at times, it only really got going after the goal, but Aribo was always around when we needed him, Jack was great but Aribo to me was better

Others, meanwhile, were much more generic in their praise but both of these supporters alluded to the idea that the 23-year-old is starting to trust himself in this division.
Aribo showing his class again today, ball just sticks to his feet. 4 of them around him at one point and he some how comes away with the ball 👏🏻.
