Rangers moved to within six points of Celtic in the Scottish Premiership table on Saturday afternoon, defeating Hearts 2-0 at Ibrox thanks to goals from Jamie Murphy and Russell Martin.
With the Hoops travelling to play Aberdeen on Sunday, it was the perfect chance to put more pressure on Brendan Rodgers’ outfit before that match and the Light Blues delivered.
Graeme Murty’s side produced an accomplished performance to see off a determined Hearts side, who battled hard to get ahead in the first half before Murphy’s opening goal allowed Rangers to take control.

Murphy was an outstanding attacking presence throughout and with his goal took his direct goal contribution over his last three matches to eight, composed of three goals and five assists.
He’s hitting top form at the perfect time and supporters will be hoping he can maintain that level of performance in the closing stages of the season.
Fans took to Twitter to discuss his display against Hearts…
Jamie Murphy is a much better player than I thought he was.

That was excellent today. Candeias brilliant. Docherty and Goss really good in midfield. Jamie Murphy really starting to influence games.
Seems we are now also good enough to negate the horrendous refereeing of John Beaton, which is handy. 🔴⚪️🔵

How good is Jamie Murphy and I just hope Brighton don't try move the goalposts and want more than the reported 1.2 million.

Jamie Murphy also was excellent. Gave young Mitchell a hard time and showed great composure and skill for the goal. 👏🏻

Jamie Murphy the best player in the league right now?

Don’t hear many people harking on about Barrie McKay since big Jamie Murphy took up the baton . He’s been excellent so far power pace and skill and an eye for a goal, long may it last .
