Rangers are close to making Filip Helander their eighth signing of the summer transfer window so far, according to The Evening Times.

The paper report that a four-year deal for the player could be announced as early as Thursday after the club agreed a £3.5m fee with Serie A side Bologna.

The Swedish international would arrive to compete for places at centre-back alongside Connor Goldson, Nikola Katic and new arrival George Edmundson.

Helander has extensive senior experience in Sweden and Italy with Malmo, Hellas Verona and Bologna, also recently appearing as regular for his country in Euro 2020 qualifying.

He has the kind of profile that an ambitious club in Scotland should be looking for, but with that reported fee and playing history will also come expectation.

Can he help Rangers make a challenge for trophies this season?
