Rangers may have to try and fend off interest in their captain James Tavernier and the fans on Twitter have been reacting to the latest rumour.

The 27-year-old is a transfer target for Steve Bruce and Newcastle, according to the print edition of The Daily Mail, via The Daily Record. Bruce is looking to add to his new squad having seen it somewhat depleted in the window before his arrival.

Tavernier has been a mainstay of the Rangers team since signing in 2015, going on to become captain of Steven Gerrard's side. The defender is a constant threat down the right-hand side and would be a big loss at Ibrox if he were to go to Tyneside.

The right-back's attacking output is unmatched by most forwards in Scotland - scoring 17 times and assisting a further 20 in his 57 games last season. He finished the season as the club's second top scorer behind Alfredo Morelos, not bad for a full-back.
