Rangers have released Carlos Pena, the club has confirmed via Rangers.co.uk.

The Scottish giants announced on Tuesday that they have parted ways with the midfielder, who has struggled for minutes at Ibrox since joining the club in 2017.

Pena has made a total of 14 appearances for the Scottish club and has been on loan with Cruz Azul and Club Necaxa in his native Mexico.

He has yet to play under Steven Gerrard at the Scottish giants but scored five goals in 14 appearances for the Gers.

The BBC claim that Rangers paid £2million to sign Pena and that he could now move to Poland.

Rangers are currently second in the Scottish Premiership, six points behind leaders Celtic, under Brendan Rodgers.

The club issued a short statement on Tuesday after announcing Pena's release, reading: "We can confirm that Carlos Pena is no longer a Rangers player. His contract has been terminated. We wish him the best for his future."

And fans of the Glasgow giants have reacted to the news on Twitter, seemingly delighted that the two parties have parted ways.
