Rangers advanced into the last 16 of the Europa League with a resolute display in Portugal and they have only one man to thank.
Steven Gerrard’s side completed a stunning comeback last week before fully completing the job by dumping SC Braga out of the competition with a 1-0 victory in their own backyard.
The visitor’s only goal came from winger Ryan Kent and it was a superb solo effort as he broke through the defence to calmly slot home in the 61st minute.
And plenty of supporters have been left with egg on their face for their premature reactions to his performance.
Here’s what they were saying in the first half…
Kent is useless

Kent and Hagi. Absolute garbage mate.

Kent is so out of confidence it’s unbelievable.

— JaKeY (@Wilsonryan96) February 26, 2020
Kent is very bad
— martI (@M1607L) February 26, 2020
“Very bad,” “useless” and “absolute garbage” were three shouts from fans while one claimed the 23-year-old was a “waste” at £7m.
During the half-time break, the opinion was very much the same as plenty of others called for Gerrard to withdraw the former Liverpool man.
Many wanted Joe Aribo to come on, and another member of the Gers faithful even said Kent was “terrible.”
Aribo on for Kent please

Kent has been terrible, we’ve missed 3 great chances, hope it doesnt come back to bite us. 🙈
— DP Taylor 🏴 (@Dptaylor17) February 26, 2020
Unbelievable how we aren’t 2 or 3 up. Kent has been rubbish again – he is so far off the pace. I am a amazed that he is always in the team no matter what.

But the midfielder soon became the match-winner for the Scotsmen, bagging just after the hour mark after a sublime pass from Ianis Hagi set him free to unleash on the Braga defence.
This is how fans received the strike… It’s funny how things change…

Kent will tear you apart again 🇬🇧💙
— Harrison Bilsland (@harrisonbilslan) February 26, 2020
Edmondson was immense- straight forwards, no tricks defending. Jack – amazing insightful play. Hagi – apart from the miss, was superb. Pass for Kent was magic. Kent takes a chance at last. Whole team put in a shift. Proud of them tonight
— Allan Haughton (@allanhaughton) February 26, 2020
A couple of supporters even joked that fans were going to quickly delete their tweets as they now look really stupid for criticising the young wide man.
His display was even called “superb.”
Although one visiting fan believes Kent will become he will quickly become the scapegoat once again this weekend.
But maybe those of Rangers persuasion should think again before jumping the gun.
And in other news, Rangers defender comes under fire…
