Rangers director Alastair Johnston has made a bad week for supporters of the club even worse with his latest comments suggesting that finishing third in the Scottish Premiership this season would be 'ahead of the curve' as they continue to rebuild from lower league football.

As quoted by The Daily Record, he said: "In terms of looking forward from where we were four or five years ago at the bottom, the progress that has been gradually made, we are probably ahead of the curve in reality if we finish second or third. We are making progress. Hopefully the curve will be fast but it is still going to be gradual, it is not going to happen overnight."

The club were thrashed by Celtic on Sunday, leaving fans bitterly disappointed, with many expecting the club to at least be challenging the Hoops in one-off games, never mind finishing second ahead of the likes of Aberdeen and Hibs, who have much smaller budgets.

Comments like Johnston's are the last thing they want to hear as they continue to question the future direction of the club from first team players to coaching staff to the chief decision makers at Ibrox.
