Rumours linking Borna Barisic with a move to AS Roma, per Sunday Post, have emerged in recent days and prompted plenty of discussion regarding what figure would be sufficient to prise him away from Rangers.

Regular Sky Sports pundit Charlie Nicholas has commented on Barisic's future, but his name-dropping of Glen Kamara could be an ominous sign for the future.

What's the word?

With Barisic performing so well in the SPFL this season, as his 13 assists suggest, Rangers should be in a commanding position to attract a healthy transfer fee for the left-back's services if the Italian outfit come calling.

Nicholas, however, believes that £7m or £8m "wouldn't be a bad return" for the Croatia international, per Daily Express (via Daily Record).

While that is certainly a verdict worthy of being scrutinised, the fact he also brought Kamara's name into the conversation is a concerning sign for the future.

"Rangers have already said they won’t sell Alfredo Morelos so if they need to raise money then they might look at others like Glen Kamara or Barisic."

A matter of time

Kamara has been an absolute revelation at Ibrox since he signed for the club.

A deal worth £50k was all it took to secure his services in January 2019 and, such was the extent of his impact in the final months of the season, he was touted as the signing of the season by The Scotsman journalist Joel Sked, while Scott Arfield labelled the deal as "the biggest steal of the century".

With such esteemed acclaim emerging in the media, it's only a matter of time before rival clubs begin to take note of his outstanding performances.

According to the Daily Mail, Arsenal were scouting the Finnish midfielder towards the end of 2019 despite being released by the Gunners in 2017.

Though Nicholas does not imply a bid is forthcoming, the fact he has mentioned Kamara as a player with marketability proves he's one of the most coveted talents at the club right now, and Celtic's failure to hold on to Moussa Dembele and Kieran Tierney in the past two years proves the top Scottish clubs are often left powerless to the financial prowess of rival European clubs

Steven Gerrard will naturally expect to keep hold of Kamara during the current window, but history suggests he could be in danger of losing his star midfielder if an attractive bid is tabled during the summer months.
