Rangers’ pursuit of former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Niko Kranjcar has been dealt a major blow as he prepares for talks with New York Cosmos over a deal to remain in America, report Empire of Soccer.
Though the Croatian has been ruled out for the remainder of the current campaign after suffering a quad strain, he will talk about extending his stay in the Big Apple.
Gers chief Mark Warburton is thought to be interested in prizing the former Portsmouth man back to Britain as he gears up for a season back in the top flight of Scottish football.
Having already signed Joey Barton and Jordan Rossiter, the ex-Brentford chief is said to have made attempts to land the 31-year old in order to bolster the ranks in Glasgow.
However, the Cosmos have announced they plan to have talks with the playmaker over extending his stay across the pond into next season.
“We’re still talking to him about the possibility of keeping him for the future,” head coach Gio Savarese said.
“He is a valuable player for us and more than a valuable player, a great person; the kind of person we want to keep with the club. So we are definitely interested in him staying with us.”
