A slight majority of the Rangers fans that answered our recent poll want Jon Flanagan to start ahead of Andy Halliday in the crucial Europa League clash with Villarreal at Ibrox.

Steven Gerrard's side are currently third in Group G, level on points with Spartak Moscow and just one below their upcoming Spanish opponents. A win then would put the Gers in a prime position to progress into the knockout stages, but a loss could put them out if Moscow beat Rapid Vienna.

Rangers then will want to be strong at the back, and 55 per cent of the fans that answered our recent poll felt that Flanagan would be a better option than Halliday at left-back. The latter started in the 3-0 win over Livingston on Saturday, and he has covered at full-back for much of the season, but he is naturally a central midfielder and it would seem that 25-year-old former Liverpool man Flanagan is the more popular option.
