Stefan Marinovic is undergoing a one-week trial at Ibrox, as reported by The Scottish Sun.

What’s the word?

New Zealand international Marinovic has been offered the chance to win a contract with Rangers, as the Gers have handed the 27-year-old a chance to impress for the Scottish title hopefuls.

The 6 foot 3 shot-stopper has spent most of his career in Germany, but moved to the United States of America with Major League Soccer franchise Vancouver Whitecaps in 2017. He was released by the Canadian club in November, per their official website.

"It's planned for a week at the moment," was Gerrard's response when quizzed on Marinovic's trial, according to Sky Sports.

Follow in Matt Polster’s example

Marinovic can take confidence that his trial with Rangers could turn into a full-time deal, as the Glasgow giants are nearing an agreement to keep Matt Polster at Ibrox.

The versatile 25-year-old trialled with Rangers during the club’s winter training camp in Tenerife - as The Scottish Sun reported last week.

Gerrard has clearly been impressed with the midfielder-come-right-back, after revealing the club are hoping to sign him on a long-term deal.

As quoted by The Scottish Sun, he said; "We’re in talks with his agent. We haven’t got it over the line just yet, but we’ve told his advisers we’d like him to come.

"It would be a long-term deal. I know him well from the MLS. He’s a player who can play numerous positions. He’s a good professional, he’s in good shape and I think he’s got the potential to be a first-team player for us if the financials work."

Should Marinovic impress during his trial, the 27-year-old would likely be signed to rival Wes Foderingham and Robby McCrorie as back-up to first-choice ‘keeper Allan McGregor.

McCrorie and Foderingham shared duties between the sticks on Sunday with both featuring in the friendly against HJK Helsinki.
