As reported by The Telegraph, Steven Gerrard has said that the Scottish Cup replay clash with Kilmarnock and the subsequent visit to Aberdeen in the quarter-finals represent his side's best chance of success this season after Celtic widened the gap at the top of the SPFL last weekend.

What did he say?

After a 'must win' battle with St Johnstone was drawn and Rangers' title rivals edged out Kilmarnock, it was suggested that the Scottish Cup has become the Gers' best chance at silverware this season, to which Gerrard replied:

“I think where we sit right here, that you’re probably right in saying that. This has been a competition, even from the beginning of the season, that we’ve looked at.

“We’ve wanted to do well in the cup competitions and in the last one (Betfred Scottish League Cup) we got to the semi-finals. We were very disappointed with the outcome in that.

“Wednesday night’s an opportunity for us to put in a performance that’s good enough to set up a tie to go to Pittodrie. That’s got to be the aim.”

Celtic to be allowed to run away with the league?

Gerrard's priorities clearly lie in progressing through the cup and, considering how far Rangers have fallen from their Glasgow neighbours in the SPFL title race, it appears the Liverpool legend has conceded defeat already, with seven games of the first phase still to go.

The Ibrox outfit played out a goalless draw with St Johnstone on Saturday and could have done with Alfredo Morelos, who was serving a suspension, but the Colombian will, crucially, be back in contention for the clash with Killie on Wednesday night.

Having come to another stalemate with the East Ayrshire outfit in the 5th round, Rangers are forced to replay the clash midweek and, by the sounds of it, Gerrard will be placing all his hopes of silverware on the fixture.
