Rangers have been strongly linked with a move for Dominic Solanke this summer, but Steven Gerrard should forget his old club and swoop for Tammy Abraham on loan instead.

What's the story?

The Solanke story has been popping up all summer, and last week The Scottish Sun reported that the Gers are still interested in the Liverpool striker.

The young Englishman struggled massively during his first season at Liverpool, managing to score his only league goal on the final day of the season.

The Gers already have a talented but wasteful striker in Alfredo Morelos, so what they need is someone who has proven they can score goals at a decent level.

Tammy Abraham is back at Chelsea, but with the Blues interested in Gonzalo Higuain it seems incredibly unlikely he will get a chance at Stamford Bridge, so Gerrard should forget about the misfiring Solanke and sign Chelsea's lanky wonderkid instead.

Finally a 20-goal striker?

Aforementioned, Solanke scored just one Premier League goal last season in a whopping 25 league appearances, not particularly impressive considering he is surrounded buy the likes of Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane. The youngster looked sluggish and short of confidence, and had loads of chances to grab some goals throughout the season.

Compare that to Abraham, who scored five goals for an awful Swansea team, and it’s really not even close. The 20 year-old was the Swans’ only threat, is faster than Solanke, just as good in the air, and a much better finisher.

What should particularly entice Gerrard is how lethal the Chelsea youngster can be once he hits form, grabbing an incredible 23 Championship goals on loan with Bristol City as a teenager.

If Gerrard is indeed going to opt for a Premier League youngster on loan, then choosing a player who has just eight league goals in his entire career over one who broke 20 in one season would be criminal, and while it might be ambitious given his wish to stay in the English top flight, he could make the difference for Rangers in the 2018/19 title race.

The Gers looked fantastic going forward at times in their Europa League tie against Shkupi, and Abraham’s pace and clinical finishing would be the perfect weapon to cap off some of those counter attacking moves.
