Rangers have lost their way in an attacking sense over the last couple of weeks, so what can Steven Gerrard do to get the Gers firing again?

The Chalkboard

Rangers travel to St Mirren on Saturday having scored just once in their last three matches in all competitions.

What is most infuriating for fans is that they have actually dominated large parts of all three of those games, but are just missing that final piece of quality.

Gerrard warned players earlier this week that he will spend in January if the end product does not improve, but there are some changes he can make immediately to give his side some extra spark.

A new role for Kent

Ryan Kent has been nothing short of exceptional since joining on loan from Liverpool. The tricky winger took a few games to hit his stride, but since then has arguably been the player of the season so far.

The 21-year-old just looked a step off the pace during the draw at Kilmarnock, mainly because he wasn’t getting enough service. This is why Gerrard should move him to a central position, where his pace, directness and skill will draw defenders out of position.

Playing Kent as a “number ten” will wreak havoc against St Mirren, create more space for the likes of Daniel Candeias and Alfredo Morelos, and also allow the gaffer to start Glenn Middleton on the left wing.

The return of McCrorie

Of course, playing Kent in the middle does make the Gers more vulnerable defensively. The return of Ross McCrorie would fix this, as the 20-year-old colossus has absolutely no instinct to get forward.

Lassana Coulibaly has been poor in the last few weeks, and the 6ft 3in McCrorie deserves a chance to show Gerrard what he can do. The youngster has come under some controversy due his inability to avoid the referee’s notebook, but he can use his physicality and hunger to absolutely dominate St Mirren’s midfield.

So, Rangers fans, would you like to see Kent and Middleton start together? Should McCrorie get the nod? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below…
