Now three weeks on from the departure of Pedro Caixinha, Graeme Murty's days as caretaker manager of Rangers may again be limited. Pressure is growing on the Light Blues to name a permanent successor, meaning Saturday's match against Hamilton could be one of the last games he has to influence the first team at Ibrox.

Murty has brought stability and good results in the wake of Caixinha's sacking, ensuring that Rangers don't fall further behind Aberdeen and Celtic who are above them in the Scottish Premiership.

Perhaps though the main strength of Murty has not yet been realised in his latest stint as caretaker; his knowledge of the young players at Ibrox. The U20s coach has so far only really utilised defender Ross McCrorie from the youth ranks at the club and he was already well on his way to becoming an established first team start under Caixinha.

Saturday's match against Hamilton is the perfect chance to introduce some fresh blood into the team and leave a legacy fans can appreciate.

Here are the THREE leading candidates...

Ryan Hardie

Ryan Hardie has been knocking on the door to get some first team action for a while now but after an international break in which he scored for Scotland's U21s side, perhaps it's finally time to give him another start and capitalise on that confidence.

The 20-year-old has appeared from the bench on four occasions already this term, including in the last match against Partick Thistle, but has not yet started a game.

With Kenny Miller and Alfredo Morelos in the side, he has some tough competition. Then again, Morelos has not scored for close to two months so perhaps it's time to give him a reminder he needs to up his game again to be guaranteed a starting spot.

Hardie is young, hungry and eager to impress and after his vital goal for Scotland, he's well placed to net his first for Rangers since the 2014/15 season.

Jamie Barjonas

Jamie Barjonas is another who has featured in multiple match day squads for Rangers this season, but has had to settle for two substitute appearances and zero starts.

However, he's also a player ready to make the step up and be promoted to the first team squad permanently, especially after signing a new deal at the club earlier this month.

That could be the catalyst he needs to mount a challenge to regulars in the Rangers midfielder. He's certainly been a hit with fans in his fleeting appearances so far.

At the age of just 18 he's seen as one of the brightest prospects in the Light Blues squad and Graeme Murty will know him better than most at the club having worked with him extensively as U20s coach.

Aaron Nemane

Manchester City loanee Aaron Nemane has failed to really assert himself on the Rangers team as of yet, but has the potential to be a real hit with the right attitude and application.

During the international break he was one of the players on the fringes of the first team squad who were summoned to play a friendly with Berwick Rangers and he went about his task on the night superbly, netting the second of a 4-0 win and staking his claim to feature this weekend.

That was a match Graeme Murty was eyeing to see if players were ready to play in the first team more regularly and his performance and goal will have done him no harm at all.

With five substitute appearances under his belt for the senior side, he's yet to make his full debut and there could be no better time than in front of his own fans against Hamilton on Saturday.
