No club in Scotland has created more transfer headlines than Rangers over the last twelve months. Whether it's signing international legends like Bruno Alves, seeing flops like Carlos Pena spin through Ibrox revolving doors or the emergence of Alfredo Morelos as a multi-million pound talent, the Light Blues' business has been a major talking point in Scottish football.

The Morelos case has been one of the most intriguing by far, with the Colombian reportedly the subject of an £8m bid from the Chinese Super League recently, which Rangers surprisingly turned down.

There are cases to be made for keeping the striker at Ibrox for the foreseeable future, but surely the benefits of selling him at that price outweigh the negatives?

Was turning down that bid a show of financial defiance, or was it transfer stupidity?

Here are THREE reasons why they can't afford to turn down a similar bid this summer, should it emerge...

His scoring isn't consistent enough to turn down the reported fees

It's true that Alfredo Morelos is having a good debut season at Rangers. The striker has scored 15 goals so far this term, which is equal to the amount of the Light Blues' highest scorer across the entirety of last season.

He's well on track to score over 20 goals this season, which for a 21 year old is pretty impressive, especially for a player exploring the uncharted waters of Scottish football.

However, for the reported £8m, a fee rarely seen in Scottish football outside of Celtic selling to the English Premier League, it's not a scoring record that is so outstanding to be irreplaceable.

He's had 30 matches to reach that total and is averaging a goal ever 161 minutes in the Scottish Premiership, going through spells without finding the back of the net, the longest of which lasted eight matches. He's also failed to produce in big matches against Celtic.

They already have Jason Cummings

If Rangers didn't have a ready-made replacement for Alfredo Morelos at the club then the case for keeping him would be a lot stronger, but the truth is that in Jason Cummings they have a player ready to be the main man at Ibrox.

He may only be on loan from Nottingham Forest, but Rangers have the option to buy the striker and based on the evidence so far, would be stupid not to do so.

The Scotland international has looked sharp in his early appearances for the Light Blues, netting twice already, and fitting in with his teammates more and more with every appearance.

His consistency in scoring for former club Hibs showed he can be relied upon and if Rangers do cash in on Morelos, they can have no fears that the goals will dry up with the 22-year-old striker ready to step up.

The cash can be used to take Rangers to the next level

Even though it seems apparent that Rangers are on fairly secure financial footing, £8m is still a lot of money to the Ibrox side and if invested in first-team recruitment could pay massive dividends in their quest to catch up with Celtic.

The Hoops have done well in recent seasons selling players at the peak of their value, only for money to be re-invested in replacements. The likes of Victor Wanyama, Virgil van Dijk and Fraser Forster have all left without periods of instability.

It's time for Rangers to follow the same model and cash in on talents before focusing on the next wave of talents, with the options even greater due more cash available.

With strong defenders and more creative midfielders required, it's money that can be diverted elsewhere in the team.
