According to a report from Sky Sports in Italy, AC Milan are on the lookout for a young full-back to compensate for Ricardo Rodriguez's potential departure in the near future, and both Hearts' Aaron Hickey and Wigan’s Antonee Robinson have attracted their attention.

What's the word, then?

It seems that Rodriguez is close to agreeing a transfer to Fenerbahce and that will leave the Rossoneri in need of a new full-back.

The Turkish club, as well as PSV Eindhoven, have seemingly offered just over £5m to land his signature and Milan are preparing for his eventual departure from the club.

The same source claims that both Hickey and Robinson are seen as potential understudies to their first-choice in that position, Theo Hernandez, and both are being discussed at the San Siro.

And looking at both young prospects, it seems that they just might fit the bill.

Verdict

Hernandez and Rodriguez are currently the only two natural left-backs Stefano Pioli has at his disposal.

Not to mention that even if the latter ends up staying, which seems unlikely at the very moment, he is still injured and that leaves the Rossoneri with just one option in tow.

Needless to say, dipping their toes into the market and finding someone who could serve as a back-up for Hernandez is essential. Both Hickey and Robinson are extremely young but have some experience under their belts.

Robinson has played a total of 28 games in the ongoing 2019/20 campaign and is a regular part of Wigan's squad. A very similar thing can be said for Hickey at Hearts, despite him being only 17 years of age.

The young Scottish left-back has played 24 games throughout the season, even netting one goal in the process as well.

Both look like good prospects for the future and could prove to be good understudies for Hernandez at San Siro.
