According to a recent report from Sky Sports, Inter Milan may be distancing themselves from Man United veteran Ashley Young, with a swap deal involving Roma's Leonardo Spinazzola and Matteo Politano reportedly close.

Spinazzola was having a medical at Inter on Wednesday, per BBC, and it appears the swap deal will be concluded imminently.

What's the word, then?

Young has been on Antonio Conte's radar but the Nerazzurri's pending swap deal is likely to cool the Serie A chasing outfit's interest in the 34-year-old.

Sky Sports continue to say that Roma are in a need of a winger following a serious injury to their starlet, Nicolo Zaniolo, and Inter's Politano seems like a good option for the Gladiators.

Conte appears to be using that interest to solve his full-back issue and land the 26-year-old left-back in the process, which would make the deal for Young unnecessary.

Verdict

Needless to say, going for Spinazzola instead of Young would be a much better deal for Conte's troops.

While Young does have plenty of experience to offer and is nearing the end of his contract, which is due to expire in the summer, his best days are well behind him.

The 26-year-old Spinazzola still has a lot to offer and just might be a better option for the Nerazzurri long-term.

He has played 16 games across all competitions in 2019/20 so far and even managed to tally one goal in the Europa League on top of an assist in Serie A as well.

Similarly to Young, the Italian can also be deployed on both sides of the pitch and even in a higher line if necessary, according to the games Transfermarkt have in their database.

For those reasons, going for him instead of the 34-year-old veteran seems like a smarter move for Conte.
