According to new reports coming from Gazzetta dello Sport, Inter Milan have intensified their efforts to land Chelsea's Olivier Giroud in January. And he could actually be an ideal target for Antonio Conte.

What's the word, then?

The same sources state the Nerazzurri actually have a pretty good chance of actually getting their man as there are no visible obstacles along the way.

Giroud, now 33, has seen better days at Chelsea and Frank Lampard doesn't seem to count on the French World Cup winner anymore.

So far this season, the striker has only mustered four games and 120 minutes in the Premier League, mostly finding himself either on the bench or in the stands.

Inter, however, seem to like his profile because he could serve as the perfect Romelu Lukaku substitute.

On the face of it, that deal certainly looks ideal for the Nerazzurri and they should pull the trigger when the time comes in January.

A perfect plan B

With both Lukaku and Lautaro Martinez at the club, there's hardly a need to bring in another high-profile striker who would compete for that starting spot in Conte's line-up.

But if Giroud were really to arrive, he would definitely be behind the aforementioned duo in the pecking order.

And with 33 years on his back and far from regular football back in the blue side of London, he can't really expect much more than that.

But when everything is said and done, he is someone with enough experience and pedigree to be an impactful game-changer from the bench.

After all, we're talking here about a player who's scored 19 goals and assisted 13 in 69 games for Chelsea, and 105 goals in 253 games for Arsenal.

Not to mention that he was the Blues' top-scorer for the 2018/19 season and even won the World Cup with France in Russia as recently as last summer.

With his contract due to run out next summer, he seems like a reliable and fully attainable target for the Nerazzurri and one they definitely shouldn't miss out on.

This is especially the case when you consider Martinez has been linked to many top clubs from Europe as of late, regardless of the fact they apparently don't fear those rumours at all.

You never know in football and sometimes it's good to have a plan B, especially if it's such a bargain as this one.
