According to recent reports coming from Sky Sports, Inter Milan are in ongoing talks over signing Manchester United's Ashley Young.

What's the word, then?

Young is now 34 years old already and his current deal with the Red Devils is due to expire in the summer.

Sky Sports in Italy claims the Nerazzurri are keen on offering the ageing defender an 18-month contract in an attempt to try and lure him to the team, but only on the condition that he signs for them this month.

Following the summer arrivals of both Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez, Young would be the third player to leave Old Trafford and head for Inter Milan this season.

But looking at the deal as a whole, it could very well be one that Antonio Conte should avoid.

Not worth it

Inter's interest in Young doesn't really come as a surprise. Or rather, their search for an additional full-back doesn't, seeing as they only have two options for the left side of the pitch and just one for the right.

Not only that but their only natural right-back, Danilo D'Ambrosio, is currently out with an injury.

This does make strengthening that position a priority and Young can potentially slot on either side of the pitch, as we've seen his outings this season alone.

The big fat United quiz of 2019 - how much do you remember about the last year at Man Utd?

But the problem is very much the fact Man United's veteran is already 34 and hasn't been performing to a particularly high level.

He has often been heavily slated and booed by his own fans and he's averaged just 1.2 tackles and 0.9 interceptions per game.

Granted, he can offer that experience and off the pitch work-ethic, something Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was quick to praise after Man United's friendly clash with Inter when he said:

"I think Ashley is a top professional. He always gives absolutely everything and his delivery today ended up with a goal. We want our fans to support our players and Ash has been a very loyal servant to this club for many years and he will keep on performing when he plays."

Still, it's difficult to actually see him significantly improve the Nerazzurri squad and at 34, he would definitely not be a long-term solution to Conte's glaring issue.
