This weekend sees the resumption of action in Serie A, as Italy’s club teams look to fire themselves to the top of the table. On Saturday the top two are both in action, as Jose Mourinho’s Inter Milan will be hoping to extend their two point lead at the top whilst Sampdoria will be aiming to close that gap. As Luigi Del Neri’s Sampdoria are in action first, they have the chance to go top of the table, even if only for a couple of hours, before Inter are in action at the San Siro later.
Sampdoria have impressed so far this season but are sweating on the fitness of star striker and top scorer this season Giampaolo Pazzini who has a fractured nose. They face a Bologna team at the Luigi Ferraris stadium who sacked their manager following a defeat in their last game and look good for a victory. The hosts will be without suspended midfielder Marco Padalino but will still fancy their chances against a Bologna team that hasn’t won on the road since January.
Despite Inter topping the Serie A table, they have been disappointing in the Champions League so far and will be looking forward to getting back to domestic action. After three matches Inter are bottom of Group F and a 2-2 draw at home to Dynamo Kiev on Tuesday only added to their woes. They have now gone eight Champions League matches without a win and the pressure is building on Mourinho who was specially brought to the San Siro to win the Champions League. But last season’s Serie A champions are have won three of their four home games in this season’s competition and should register a victory against a struggling Catania team with the help of Samuel Eto’o.
