According to a recent report from Tuttosport, Juventus are interested in signing Mauro Icardi in the summer once his loan spell at Paris Saint-Germain ends.

What's the word, then?

The 26-year-old forward is still officially an Inter Milan player but is currently playing his football over in Ligue 1 under Thomas Tuchel's stern hand.

The report from Tuttosport, however, claims that the Bianconeri are interested in hijacking Paris Saint-Germain's deal and bringing the player back to Italy in the summer despite the Saints wanting to retain him.

For away day veterans only: Can you name all of these defunct stadiums?

Juventus are betting on the good relations between the two clubs, or rather between Fabio Paratici and Leonardo, the sporting directors of their respective sides, could play a role.

Pertinently, PSG have an option to make the deal permanent for €65m (£55m) in the summer.

Verdict

So far, Icardi has been an immense signing for the Saints, having already scored a total of 17 goals across all competitions in 2019/20, including nine in just 14 Ligue 1 clashes.

If he continues performing that well, there's basically no reason for Paris Saint-Germain not to exercise their option to make their loan player's stay at the French capital permanent.

Juventus' interest is very much justified as Icardi could definitely add some more firepower to Maurizio Sarri's squad.

With Cristiano Ronaldo slowly but surely ageing, a new prolific goalscorer could be needed in the not so distant future.

But can they really hope to prise him away from Ligue 1? Only time will tell but, as things currently stand, that looks like a very unlikely outcome come the summer transfer window.
