Former Premier League midfielder Carlton Palmer has told Football FanCast in an exclusive interview that Eddie Howe would have been a good fit for Sheffield United.

The Yorkshire club are currently searching for a new manager following Chris Wilder's departure earlier this season.

Meanwhile, Eddie Howe, who left Bournemouth after the 2019/20 campaign, looks set to take over at Celtic.

Having taken the Cherries from League One to the Premier League, though, Palmer believes the 43-year-old would have been perfect for Sheffield United, who will be looking to win promotion next season following their relegation to the Championship.

Speaking exclusively to FFC about the Blades' search for a new manager, the ex-Sheffield Wednesday player said:

"I think Eddie Howe would be a good fit for Sheffield United. You know, you've got to look at the managers who have had the experience of getting promoted out of that division."

Indeed, given Howe's track record, United have quite possibly missed a golden opportunity here.

That being said, the chance to manage a huge club like Celtic, where he would get to compete for domestic honours and in Europe, is probably enticing and more of a draw than the United job right now following their relegation. So convincing him could have been a challenge.
