Sheffield United signed off on their time in the Premier League with a hard-fought 1-0 win against Burnley on Sunday afternoon, with the fans at Bramall Lane treated to a rare win in a disappointing season.

Whilst the game meant very little to both sides, it was excellent to see the Blades producing the sort of performance which was a regular occurrence in last season's superb campaign, once which will give fans hope of an immediate return to the Premier League next season.

David McGoldrick scored the only goal of the game with a fine strike from range, with the Blades defence standing strong against the aerial threat of Sean Dyche's side throughout the game, and whilst McGoldrick will get the plaudits, it was arguably John Egan who was the star of the show at Bramall Lane.

As per SofaScore, the former Brentford man would earn an impressive 7.8/10 rating for his performance on Sunday, which was the best of any player from both sides to feature in the game.

During the game, the centre-back would make as many as 10 clearances and would also contribute three interceptions, which is far more than any other Sheffield United player managed and is also a vast improvement on the 4.2 clearances and 1.3 interceptions he averaged in the Premier League this season.

Perhaps most impressively, the 28-year-old defender would win 11/14 of the aerial duels he was involved in during the game, which is a superb effort when you consider the threat that Chris Wood poses up front for the Clarets.

Again, it is a significant improvement on the 4.3 aerials won per game he has averaged in the top-flight this season, which emphasises just how good he was on Sunday afternoon.

Therefore, the "rock-solid" defender was clearly key to Paul Heckingbottom's side winning the game and whilst McGoldrick got the winner, Egan deserves a huge amount of credit for his performance.
