Sheffield United look set to complete a deal to bring Ben Davies to Bramall Lane this summer.
That’s according to a report by Sky Sports, who claim that the Liverpool centre-back is set to complete a season-long loan switch to the Blades in the coming days, with an agreement being reached between the two clubs on Saturday.
The report continues by stating that Sheffield United wanted to include an option to buy clause in the deal for the defender, however, this was rejected by Jurgen Klopp’s side.
Whilst it is also mentioned that the cost of the former Preston North End man’s loan is undisclosed, although it is believed Liverpool will receive a bonus if United secure promotion this season.
Finally, it is reported that the 26-year-old has been Slavisa Jokanovic’s number one target for the left-hand side of central defence this summer.
With Sheffield United’s season having got off to something of a slow start, with Jokanovic’s side picking up just one point over their first two Championship fixtures, the addition of Davies is sure to provide the club with quite a considerable boost.
While it is a well-known fact that the centre-back has not made a first-team appearance for Liverpool since his signing back in January, the 26-year-old nevertheless proved during his time at Preston that he is an extremely talented player at Championship level.
Indeed, over his 19 Championship appearances for the Lilywhites last term, the £2.7m-rated defender helped his side keep six clean sheets, in addition to making an average of 1.4 interceptions, 1.2 tackles, 4.3 clearances and winning 4.9 duels per game.
As such, not only does the £60k-per-week man’s arrival help to solve Jokanovic’s lack of depth in the heart of his Sheffield United defence, the argument could also be made that Davies is actually an upgrade on the 52-year-old’s current options in the position, with his signing being one that will undoubtedly have fans of the Blades buzzing.
