Transfer interest is growing in Sheffield United defender George Baldock this summer.

What's the talk?

That's according to a report by the Daily Record, who claimed that Ange Postecoglou is targeting the Blades right-back as he looks to bolster Celtic's backline ahead of their Champions League qualifying fixture against FC Midtjylland in just over three weeks' time.

However, a further report by Yorkshire Live suggests that Slavisa Jokanovic will only sanction the sale of the 28-year-old this summer if the Serbian feels that an offer is too good for the club to turn down.

Big mistake

Considering how important a part of the Sheffield United team Baldock has become since joining from MK Dons back in 2017, with Jokanovic's side facing the challenging task of securing an immediate return to the Premier League next season, selling the defender this summer could easily be viewed as a rather large mistake by the 52-year-old.

Indeed, following United's last promotion to the top flight back in 2018/19, the right-back stood out over his 38 Premier League appearances for Chris Wilder's side the following season, averaging 0.9 interceptions, 1.6 tackles and 1.8 clearances and winning 4.9 duels per game.

The £4.5m-rated man also impressed in an attacking capacity in 2019/20, scoring two goals, providing three assists and creating two big chances for his teammates, along with averaging 0.6 key passes per league fixture.

These returns saw the man Robbie Neilson called a "star" earn a seasonal SofaScore match rating of 6.83, ranking him as the Blades' joint 11th-best performer in the top flight, with the ever-present defender playing a huge role in the club securing an extraordinary ninth-placed finish upon their Premier League return.

As such, if the £26,000-per-week right-back can replicate this form for United in the Championship next season, it would provide the club with a huge boost to their chances of achieving their goal of promotion back to the top flight at the first time of asking. Jokanovic must hold on to Baldock at all costs this summer.
