Sheffield Wednesday were knocked out of the FA Cup by Manchester City on Wednesday but they made a respectable show of themselves as the contest only ended 1-0 in favour of the English champions. It may be another loss for Garry Monk and his players to endure but the Owls should take heart from the character they displayed, as they always stayed in the contest despite achieving just 20% possession. There was a big highlight for one man in particular, too, with Barry Bannan producing an excellent piece of skill to pass the ball between two oncoming opponents and into the feet of Kieran Lee.

Fans have naturally been excited by the skill and praised Bannan as a result, as it is not often that Wednesday supporters get to see one of their own players embarrass some of the best footballers in the country.

Bannan's influence on the game didn't end there, however, and he put his midfield partners Lee and Joey Pelupessy to shame with 56 touches compared to their respective 21 and 13, per WhoScored.

One key pass also meant that he stood out to City manager Pep Guardiola, who called the 30-year-old an "incredible player" after the match, a comment which also drew reaction from fans.

Whether or not they agree with the Spaniard's comments is a different matter, but if Bannan is to prove that Guardiola is accurate then he needs to improve his consistency and display his importance to the side in the remaining league matches.

The comments should boost him however, and hopefully for the Owls' sake he takes confidence into the next match against Brentford.
