Dominic Iorfa has sadly declined in recent seasons at Sheffield Wednesday and it is time that Darren Moore got rid of the centre-back for good.

Since joining from Wolves in January 2019, the powerful defender has been a regular at Hillsborough, making 103 appearances for the Owls, contributing five goals and three assists in that time.

The 27-year-old was impressive in his debut campaign at Hillsborough, averaging a superb 7.07 rating from WhoScored for his performances in the Championship before making 41 appearances in the second tier in the 2019/20 season, helping the Owls to a 16th-place finish.

However, he would pick up an achilles injury which ruled him out for much of the 2020/21 campaign, making just ten appearances in the second tier as the Yorkshire club were relegated to League One.

Injuries once again plagued the defender last season as he picked up a hip problem which ruled him out for 22 games and sadly it seems as if the 27-year-old will never rediscover the form he showed during the early days of his Sheffield Wednesday career.

That form saw him earn the praise of Barry Bannan, who lauded him as the club's most in-form player in 2019.

He said: “He's brilliant. I said it earlier on in the season as well, since he's come in and played centre-half he's been unbelievable, he's like a man mountain."

Unfortunately, even now he is fully fit, Iorfa has drastically slipped down the pecking order in Moore's side, with the likes of Ben Heneghan, Michael Ihiekwe, Reece James and Mark McGuinness ahead of him at centre-back.

Last weekend's game against Burton Albion saw Iorfa make just his first start since September, which only came about due to the injuries to Heneghan and James, as well as Ihiekwe's suspension.

The game before that saw the Owls draw 1-1 with Bristol Rovers at Hillsborough, with Jaden Brown selected ahead of Iorfa at centre-back, which led Yorkshire Live to suggest that "the writing looks on the wall" for the former Wolves man.

While he may enjoy a brief run of games amid Wednesday's injury problems, it seems clear that his future lies away from Hillsborough, and Moore should look to move him on in January before his contract expires at the end of the season.
