Sheffield Wednesday's misery continued on Saturday as they were comprehensively taken apart in a 5-0 defeat by Brentford.

It takes the Owls' worrying run to just two wins in 14 league games, and piles the pressure on Garry Monk, who was naturally the target of severe criticism from supporters after the match.

There has been plenty of discussion taking place amongst the fanbase, with some focusing on one particular aspect of Monk's management - his current refusal to involve Sam Hutchinson in his first-team squad.

Both he and Kieren Westwood are senior players at the club who have committed years of service, yet both have been dropped, with Wednesday picking up just one win from nine games in Hutchinson's absence.

That has led many fans to criticise Monk or to call for Hutchinson to play once more, with a lot of praise for what the 30-year-old offers in terms of ability and leadership.

There are clear flaws in the Owls' team currently, with a lack of fight on display at Griffin Park that led to the heavy defeat, and over recent weeks there have been several players bearing the brunt of fan criticism, such as Joey Pelupessy and Cameron Dawson.

A lot needs to change, therefore, if the South Yorkshire outfit are to turn their form around and maintain the distance to the relegation zone, which is drawing ever closer.

Some feel Hutchinson won't make too much of a difference, and they could be right if the real issue lies with the manager and a lack of spirit being shown by the players because he is at the helm.
