Predicted Sheffield Wednesday XI vs Lincoln City

Sheffield Wednesday will be looking to continue their fine recent form when Darren Moore’s side travel to Sincil Bank to take on Lincoln City on Saturday.

The Owls have lost just three times in the league so far this season and bounced back from late heartbreak against Plymouth Argyle to beat Cheltenham Town and Cambridge United comfortably in their last two league outings.

A win against the Imps on Saturday could take Moore’s side into the top two, as they sit just one point behind Ipswich Town in third position as things stand, although after Lincoln beat the Tractor Boys away from home last time out, it is sure to be a tough game for Moore.

Fortunately for the former West Brom boss, he was able to rest his usual starters in midweek against Leicester U’21s in the Papa John’s Trophy, so will likely return to a side similar to the one that beat Cambridge in the last outing.

Here is how Football FanCast expects Moore to line his side up against Lincoln City on Saturday, with 11 changes from midweek.

David Stockdale leads the way for clean sheets in the league following his summer switch from Wycombe Wanderers, so is likely to start again in goal on Saturday.

Moore has switched to a four-at-the-back formation for recent wins and looks likely to do the same against Lincoln, which should see Ben Heneghan partner Michael Ihiekwe in the heart of the defence, with Liam Palmer and Marvin Johnson as the full-backs.

Barry Bannan and Will Vaulks will be hoping to continue their fine starts to the campaign in the deeper midfield roles, as they support Josh Windass and Tyreeq Bakinson in the attacking-midfield positions, with the latter keeping his place after starting each of the last two away games.

Finally, in attack, the “wonderful” Malik Wilks drops to the bench after starting against the Foxes’ academy side on Tuesday, with Lee Gregory returning alongside Michael Smith after a much-needed brace against Cambridge last weekend.

Lincoln will no doubt be a tough place to go for Sheffield Wednesday but Moore’s side are in confident form and will be desperate for another three points as they continue their hunt for automatic promotion.
