Sheffield Wednesday have a very strong squad.

It may not seem like it due to their current form and league position, but the Owls have a number of solid players on their books.

The likes of Barry Bannan, Fernando Forestieri, Sam Hutchinson and Tom Lees have proven their quality in the Championship before under Carlos Carvalhal as they starred in the Owls’ back to back playoff runs, and while they’ve not all been that effective under Garry Monk, their quality shouldn’t be doubted.

Indeed, the Steel City outfit have a strong squad, and when they're on it they're one of the best teams in the division.

Just look at how they performed for the first half of this season, they were third after 23 games, and under Steve Bruce, they lost just three of 18 games.

The Yorkshire club have a talented crop of players at the club, and a lot of that is down to one man.

Amadeu Paixao is a rarely-seen figure at Hillsborough, but it can’t be underestimated just how important he is to the club.

It’s easy for Wednesday fans to have ill feelings towards anyone in a position of power at the club, after all, they’re currently under investigation from the EFL for breaching financial rules, but Paixao is one man the fans should have a lot of time for.

Dejphon Chansiri’s recent interview with Dom Howson revealed just how much good work he has done at the Yorkshire club.

“He is my personal adviser and part of our recruitment committee. Amadeu is a valuable resource for myself and our club has been in football for a long time, 25 years, and has a lot of experience and many, many contacts,” Chansiri said.

Normally I do not name individual players and how we recruited them but to be fair to Amadeu, he recommended Fernando, Barry Bannan, Lucas Joao and more recently Dominic Iorfa, who I am sure everyone agrees has the potential to go a long way in football. I can also tell you that if it was not for Amadeu, Fernando may well have gone to another club when he left Watford,” He continued.

Perhaps the chairman was just defending his friend after speaking about the criticism he has received from certain sections of the fanbase, but if the above revelations are true, the backroom staff member deserves a lot of credit.

It’s not going too far to say that Barry Bannan, Forestieri and Iorfa are three of the best signings Wednesday have made in recent years with Iorfa and Bannan both playing over 30 league games this term and the Italian once winning the Owls’ Player of the Year award.

Chansiri owes a lot to his right hand man, and everyone will be hoping that Paixao can continue to work this type of magic for years to come.

In other news, Sheffield Wednesday’s Jordan Rhodes replacement could be staring them in the face.
