Sheffield Wednesday weren’t expected to do much against Manchester City on Wednesday evening.

To be honest, it was a bit of a mismatch, a side who had won just two of their previous 13 league games facing off against a team fresh off the back of beating Real Madrid at the Bernabeu should only have ever gone one way.

Eventually, City got the win, but they were made to work hard for it.

The reigning Premier League champions only managed a 1-0 win against the Owls, but it could have been an absolute rout if it weren’t for one man.

Pep Guardiola’s side certainly had enough of the ball to batter Wednesday, enjoying 80% of the possession, but Dominic Iorfa almost single-handedly made sure the Champions League contenders didn’t embarrass the Yorkshire club.

A glance at Iorfa’s stats shows just how good he was against City.

Four tackles and just one foul shows not only how tenacious he was when trying to recover the ball but also how well he timed his challenges against one of the deadliest frontlines in Europe.

Of course, the Mancunians came forward time and time again, and with that amount of pressure being applied, sometimes all you can do is clear the ball, and Iorfa was often the man getting rid of the danger, making a staggering 11 clearances at Hillsborough.

The 6 foot 4 defender made a great account of himself when trying to deal with the likes of Sergio Aguero, Riyad Mahrez and Gabriel Jesus, and if he can produce that type of performance on a regular basis he may soon be playing top-flight football.

Iorfa has been one of the bright sparks in Wednesday’s poor season, often earning plaudits from the fans, and he has shown that he has the quality required to play at a higher level on earlier this week.

In other news, Sheffield Wednesday fans should be excited by this youngster who describes himself as similar to Romelu Lukaku.
