It’s fair to say that Garry Monk isn’t the most popular man in the blue and white half of Sheffield at the moment.

Poor results haven’t helped the former Birmingham City manager in recent weeks, with fans calling for his head over the weekend, but his unpopularity is nothing new at Hillsborough.

Fans have been far from happy with him for some time, and that’s at least partially down to his decision to freeze out Sam Hutchinson and Keiren Westwood.

Some supporters clearly think that Monk has made the wrong call in freezing out the pair, and while we’re inclined to agree, we think that the manager still has some more to do.

Indeed, if the boss is insistent on casting players aside if they’re letting him down, then Hutchinson and Westwood aren’t the only offenders, nor are they the worst.

Take a look at Tom Lees for example.

The centre-back is underperforming Hutchinson in a number of key metrics this season including tackles per game and interceptions per game, yet he’s kept his place in the squad, playing a full 90 minutes in the 5-0 loss against Brentford on Saturday.

If Monk wants to freeze out the players that aren’t up to the task, his eyes should certainly be drawn to Lees after recent performances - he’s proving to be worse than Hutchinson.

Joey Pelupessy is one of the most heavily-criticised players within Wednesday’s squad, and it seems as though it’s for good reason too.

The Dutchman is averaging a WhoScored rating of just 6.41 this season, and although it’s been clear to see that he’s not good enough, he’s somehow become something of a regular, appearing in seven of the Owls’ last 11 games.

Monk could do worse than asking the pair to join Westwood and Hutchinson and freezing them out of the squad.

In other news, Wednesday fans have been fuming with one man.
