Darren Moore has been handed a boost in his bid to bring Reece James to Sheffield Wednesday this summer.

What's the talk?

That's according to a report by the Doncaster Free Press, who revealed that the Doncaster Rovers left-back has not yet agreed to sign a new deal with the League One side amid interest from the Owls - with the 27-year-old's current contract at the Keepmoat Stadium set to expire next month.

The report also featured a quote given by Rovers manager Richie Wellens, who stated that James should show Doncaster some respect and inform them of his decision regarding his future as soon as possible.

Wellens said: "The ball lies in his court now. We've just asked for a bit of respect in him making the decision as early as he can because if it doesn't go the way we want it to and he decides to go elsewhere, we obviously need to make other plans."

Moore will be buzzing

While the possibility undeniably remains that James could go on to sign a new deal at Doncaster, the fact that Wellens appears to be at a loss as to whether or not the defender will go on to do so is likely to leave Moore buzzing.

And, it is clear to see why the Wednesday manager is eager to seal a reunion with his former player at Hillsborough, as the £540k-rated left-back highly impressed for Rovers this season.

Over his 43 League One appearances for Wellens' side, the 27-year-old scored seven goals, registered two assists and created two big chances, as well as making an average of one interception, 1.7 tackles and 0.9 key passes per game, culminating in a seasonal SofaScore match rating of 6.95 - ranking him as the club's fourth-best performer in the third tier.

Furthermore, with the Owls' only recognised left-back Matt Penney set to leave the club upon the expiry of his contract in June, Moore will undoubtedly need to bring in reinforcements in the position this summer.

As such, the fact that possibility remains of James - whom Moore previously dubbed as an "adaptable" player - making a move to Wednesday this summer is a huge boost for the 44-year-old Owls manager, who will no doubt be calling the £3.7k-per-week defender on a daily basis in an attempt to convince him of the switch.
