Sheffield Wednesday are interested in a deal to bring Lee Gregory to Hillsborough this summer.

What's the talk?

That's according to a report by Yorkshire Live, who claim that Darren Moore is considering a move for the Stoke City forward as the 47-year-old looks to bolster his attacking options ahead of the new League One season.

The report goes on to state that, despite still having a year remaining on his contract with the Championship club, the Potters could sanction the departure of the centre-forward for nothing this summer, as Michael O'Neill is keen to lower his wage bill at the bet365 Stadium.

Moore must move

While Wednesday have already secured the signings of both Florian Kamberi and Theo Corbeanu this summer, with neither of the duo having a great deal of experience in English football, the addition of a proven EFL goalscorer would certainly appear to be a wise move by Moore.

And, although Gregory has not exactly been in the finest of form in recent seasons, it would be difficult to argue that he would not be a fantastic addition for a team playing their football in the third division of the English game.

Despite having scored just four goals and provided one assist over his 17 Championship appearances last season, as well as six goals and three assists over 40 league fixtures for Stoke in the season prior, the 32-year-old demonstrated during his time with Millwall that he is more than capable of finding the back of the net on a regular basis.

Indeed, the £450k-rated man bagged an impressive 12 goals and provided seven assists over 44 Championship appearances for the Lions in 2018/19, 10 goals and four assists over 43 league fixtures in 2017/18, 17 goals and five assists over 37 League One appearances in 2016/17 and a whopping 18 goals and four assists over 41 third tier fixtures in 2015/16.

As such, with Moore undoubtedly hoping to secure an immediate return to the Championship with Wednesday next season, the addition of a player who has not only achieved this feat previously in his career but also scoring a hatful of goals in the process would certainly appear to provide the 47-year-old with a huge boost to his chances of doing so.

So, it would seem highly advisable for the Owls manager to do all he can to land the striker Ian Holloway dubbed a "handful" this summer, as the £12k-per-week Gregory very much seems to possess the ability to help fire the Owls to glory next term.
