Leeds United have been touted to complete their midfield, with the signing of one of the World Cup’s standout stars…

What’s the latest?

That’s according to transfer insider Pete O’Rourke, who issued his verdict on the recent rumours linking director of football Victor Orta with a swoop for Azzedine Ounahi.

The Moroccan starred in Qatar over the winter period and was instrumental in their ground-breaking run to the semi-finals.

As such, he has drawn widespread praise and interest, which O’Rourke expanded upon when talking to Football FanCast:

“I think if Leeds were to get those two [Tyler Adams and Ounahi] together it’d be an exciting midfield partnership because I think they could both gel together pretty well in how they play.”

Leicester City were quoted a fee of around €45m (£40m) for his services back in December, so he wouldn't come cheap.

Imagine him & Adams

With one midfield monster already secured in the summer, adding another could be the true key to helping Jesse Marsch secure safety.

Adams has been an instant success upon joining Elland Road, acting as a tackle-master in the engine room alongside Marc Roca.

As such, he would translate this fine form onto the international stage himself, where he recorded a 7.10 average rating across his four games.

In the Premier League however, he is averaging an astronomical 4.0 tackles per 90 and ranks second only behind Joao Palhinha for most tackles this season.

Combining this with the midfield exploits of the 22-year-old, who has impressed in an attacking sense for both club and country, could be imperative in improving recent results.

Since domestic play restarted, the Yorkshire outfit are yet to taste victory in any competition.

Adding a bridge between this defensive stalwart and their front three could help overcome this disappointing form, which has seen them slump back to within just two points of the relegation zone.

Ounahi currently ranks in the top 1% for dribbles completed per 90, highlighting his impressive ability on the ball. He combines this with the constant threat he offers with his movement, as he also sits in the top 5% for progressive passes received and the top 8% for touches in the attacking penalty area, via FBref.

His lung-busting runs from midfield on the biggest stage even provoked Jose Mourinho to label him as “absolutely incredible”.

To partner this with the 1.3 tackles and one interception he averaged per game in that competition too suggests he truly is Marsch’s archetypal midfielder, merging flair with a work rate needed to succeed in England.

Ounahi could be an instant success, and the midfield partnership he might form would be a joy to watch for fans of the club.
