Everton invested heavily over the summer, with Farhad Moshiri allowing Frank Lampard and Kevin Thelwell to spend precious funds earned from the £60m Richarlison sale to bolster the whole squad.

They added depth all over the field, but arguably their most impressive additions were in the middle of the park, as they changed a threadbare and lacking area into one blooming with talent.

Of the summer purchases, their crowning jewel, was Amadou Onana.

The Belgian powerhouse was brought in for £33m right under the noses of West Ham United and has quickly endeared himself to the Evertonians.

The connection he has made with the fans, combined with his explosive midfield performances, has garnered praise from both supporters and staff alike.

Before signing, journalist Robin Bairner labelled him a “giant of a midfielder”. He has proven this in just a few months at Goodison Park.

In just one year, from starring at LOSC Lille to tearing it up for the Toffees, his value has skyrocketed.

October 2021 saw him rated at £5.4m but has most recently been valued at £27m in September 2022, outlining a 400% rise in just one year.

The 21-year-old is averaging an astronomical 2.8 tackles per game so far this Premier League season, as well as 1.5 clearances. His ability to stretch his 6-foot-4 frame around his opponents to steal possession makes him a physical marvel in the engine room.

Often partnered with Alex Iwobi and Idrissa Gana Gueye, in just one summer Lampard has managed to mastermind the complete revitalisation of a club that finished just four points clear of the relegation zone last season.

With plans to start becoming a more all-around midfielder, taught by one of England’s best, the future is glaringly bright for Onana.

He noted in a recent interview: “I work on finishing a lot with the coach after training. It's one of the missing pieces in my game, we all find the two that I can be more decisive.

“He tries to instil that in me since he did it during his career and therefore there is no better thing than to have him as a coach. I watched the Premier League a lot when I was little, Lampard is a legend of English football."

If he can become even more whole, this will be just the start of his value increase.
