Tottenham Hotspur are closing in on their first signing of the January transfer window after a cunning move from sporting director Fabio Paratici...

What's the word?

As revealed by transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, the north London outfit are set to sign Villarreal winger Arnaut Danjuma, despite the former AFC Bournemouth star being moments away from being announced as a new Everton player.

"Danjuma to Tottenham, here we go! Deal agreed — hijack completed after player did medical tests and media as new Everton signing last weekend," he tweeted. "Loan deal agreed with Villarreal — he’s on his way for medical with Spurs."

It's thought that this will cost Spurs an initial £2.5m, with the option of making it permanent for around £27m, as per Gary Jacob of The Times.

Paratici masterstroke

Whilst few will be convinced that signing a player on the cusp of joining the Premier League's basement boys is good enough, it is actually a really smart move from Paratici.

In getting in another attacker, manager Antonio Conte has even more firepower as he looks to contend with a hectic fixture list and continuous injury troubles.

The likes of Dejan Kulusevski, Lucas Moura, Richarlison and now Bryan Gil have all suffered knocks and bruises over the last few months, leaving the Italian light on options and often having to trust a horribly out-of-sorts Heung-min Son.

Danjuma provides valuable depth with two of the four aforementioned names currently on the treatment table and could rival the South Korean as a natural left-winger, all for a bargain fee of just £2.5m - whether that £27m is worth paying or not remains to be seen but we'll soon find out.

Interestingly, the Dutch forward is also capable of playing through the middle, offering further respite to Harry Kane, which could prove beneficial in the latter stages of the season, should the Lilywhites still be in the hunt for a top-four finish and in competitions such as the Champions League and FA Cup.

The 25-year-old has certainly stepped up to an elite level ever since leaving the Cherries. After delivering a whopping 16 goals and four assists last season, Danjuma has continued his fine form with six goals across all competitions this term - largely doing so as a centre-forward.

It's why the tricky and versatile attacker has been lauded as a "game-changer" by former boss Eddie Howe, as well as a "nightmare for defenders" due to his pace and direct nature, according to talismanic former striker Kevin Phillips.

As such, Danjuma is capable of adding a lot to this Spurs squad, given the evidence above, so the decision to snatch him from the Toffees' grasp is surely a touch of genius from the Italian supremo.

It's a move that could instantly reap rewards in N17.

AND in other news, Paratici could finally replace Eriksen at Spurs with swoop for £35m "creative force"...
