Everton owner Farhad Moshiri is intent on backing Frank Lampard despite their poor start to the 2022/23 Premier League campaign.

What's the latest?

The Toffees once again find themselves struggling among the bottom sides in the Premier League with a huge match against the bottom side, Southampton, coming up tomorrow.

Defeat against the Saints at Goodison Park on Saturday would see Nathan Jones' side draw level on points with Everton as well as the Welshman securing his first league win as the Southampton boss.

Ahead of the game, the Everton owner, Moshiri, has released an open letter to the fans and shared his support for Lampard after what has been a tricky 12 months in charge on Merseyside.

And speaking to NBC Sports, journalist David Ornstein does believe Moshiri is set to back Lampard but did hint this could change if results fail to improve:

(3:30) "He gave, crucially, his backing to Frank Lampard, you could say the dreaded vote of confidence, but I think on this occasion, he does actually mean it from what I'm hearing for the time being at least."

He means it... for now

What was interesting in Ornstein's update is how he suggested although Moshiri is willing to back the manager, he has his backing for the time being:

"We are all agreed that our current league position must and will improve," Moshiri said in his open letter released earlier this week.

So that does almost feel as if there could be a set time on how long Moshiri's patience could last with Lampard if the results fail to improve.

And it is apparent the results are not good enough when for the second season in a row, Everton find themselves down near the bottom of the table in a relegation fight.

However, when you consider the number of managers that Moshiri has seen come and go through the doors at Finch Farm, you do have to question whether they are the problem.

But he will have the casting vote over Lampard's future and it does feel as if it could be just a matter of time if the Toffees fail to pick a positive result on Saturday.

Despite the comments from Moshiri, there have been reports suggesting Lampard could be relieved of his duties if they are to lose their game against Southampton.
