Tottenham Hotspur left wing-back Ryan Sessegnon could be a player that may become the odd one out under Antonio Conte and the club could potentially look to sell in the summer if his form does not improve.

What's the latest?

Sessegnon started for Conte in their weekend clash against Portsmouth in the third round of the FA Cup, however, he was replaced in the latter stages of the game.

Game time for the Englishman has been relatively infrequent of late following the arrival of Ivan Perisic in the summer which has seen Sessegnon make eight starts in the league thus far.

However, speaking on his latest YouTube video, journalist Alasdair Gold has suggested the 22-year-old may have a point to prove to Conte in the final months of this season if he is to be playing his football in north London next season:

"I think my fear for him is that with Destiny Udogie coming in the summer, Ivan Perisic of course proving how very dependable he is. If he doesn't just rediscover that youthful abandon, I guess that he used to have, or at least adapt his game to be better, I suppose if he's not going to constantly fly at 100 miles an hour at people. If he doesn't kind of find himself back on track entirely. I fear that you might end up being the odd man out."

Time to shine

Sessegnon was able to provide Harry Kane with the assist for his stunning goal which proved to be the winner in the game against the League One outfit.

But the 22-year-old is still yet to provide his first assist in the Premier League this season despite making 14 appearances under the Italian (via Transfermarkt).

And this is not a great look when his rival for the starting spot at left wing-back, Perisic, has already offered Spurs five assists in the Premier League as well as a further three in the Champions League.

Sessegnon has edged the Croatian for goals with two in the league, however, the 33-year-old has created more shooting opportunities per 90 minutes and over double the number of crosses that Sessegnon has provided (via FBref).

It is worth remembering Perisic is nearing the age of 34 and only has until the end of next season on his deal in north London, but the competition is set to become more fierce in the summer for that left wing-back spot.

Spurs signed Destiny Udogie in the summer and loaned him back to Udinese for this season with the intent of the Italian joining up with Conte's side at the end of the current campaign.

And the 20-year-old - despite missing a few games through injury - has been in really impressive form for the Serie A side this season having provided a return of two goals and two assists in the league (via Transfermakt).

The Italian has also averaged more shot-creating actions per 90 than Sessegnon this season which would certainly make us question where Sessegnon may find himself playing in this Spurs side next season.

Sessegnon still has until the summer of 2025 on his deal with Spurs and if he isn't to show some more consistent form over the remainder of the season, it may be an opportunity to move him on in the summer.
