Manchester United are considering a lucrative swoop for Tottenham Hotspur's striking sensation Harry Kane, with a move potentially forthcoming this year...

What's the word?

With Erik ten Hag looking to rejuvenate Old Trafford following years of instability, a signing of Kane's calibre could serve as a the catalyst for a new prosperous era, with ESPN stating that the Red Devils are touting the 29-year-old as the long-term solution to United's centre-forward conundrum.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, talkSPORT reporter Alex Crook has claimed that the esteemed England captain will be enticed by the prospect of moving to the likes of the Red Devils to compete for trophies at the highest level, and as such could be prompted to make the switch should the opportunity arise.

He said: “I’d keep an eye on the Harry Kane situation. Again, I think that will depend on the ownership model, although, in fairness, the Man United owners did invest quite heavily last summer.

“But Kane will have a year left on his contract and he’s proven in the Premier League. I think he’d want to go to a club where he’s got a chance of winning silverware.

“Arguably, United are in a better place to do that than Tottenham. I’d definitely keep an eye on that one.”

Rooney 2.0

A Tottenham player for the entirety of his professional career - barring a few loan spells before breaking into Spurs' first-team - Kane is yet to win team silverware, with the north London club bereft of major honours since winning the League Cup in 2008.

Over the course of his career, the "goalscoring machine" - as once lauded by Gary Lineker - has netted 265 goals and provided 62 assists in 412 appearances for his club. He has scored 198 times in the Premier League, behind only the iconic Alan Shearer (260) and Wayne Rooney (208) in the all-time charts.

This season, his tally of 17 goals and three assists from 26 outings across all competitions has been paramount toward his team's pursuit of Champions League football once again and a coveted piece of silverware.

To further bolster his supreme marksmanship, the £200k-per-week phenomenon has netted 53 times from 80 appearances for his country, level with Red Devils legend Rooney on the all-time list for England and reaching the tally in 40 caps fewer than the 37-year-old.

If Kane were to indeed move to the Theatre of Dreams, he could emulate Rooney's success in Manchester, with the Red Devils' former talisman scoring a record 253 goals and providing 145 assists from 559 competitive outings for United over his illustrious playing career.

Since WhoScored began collecting consistent player data in 2009, Rooney was recorded to have made 1.7 key passes per game, maintaining a passing accuracy of 80.2% while also averaging 3.1 shots per match.

Over the entirety of his professional career, Kane bears a resemblance to his positional peer with 1.1 key passes per match, a 71.7% passing accuracy and 3.6 shots per game.

Both masters with their selfless nature and creative ingenuity, alongside their resounding direct threat, the Spurs star would be a perfect fit to spearhead the Ten Hag era at Old Trafford.

In 2021, Manchester City tried and failed with a £100m bid to bring him to that region of England. The prospect of silverware at United might just entice Kane to up sticks to a different part of Manchester yet.
