Sheffield Wednesday were without George Byers and Liam Palmer for their midweek trip to Southampton but both could reportedly return against Accrington Stanley this weekend.

The Owls fell at the final hurdle against the Saints as they lost out against the Premier League side on penalties but can take a lot of confidence from their midweek performance, and it can only be good news for Darren Moore that his squad looks to set to be strengthened further as they return to league action on Saturday.

Sheffield Star reporter Joe Crann shared the updates on Byers' foot injury and Palmer's ear infection in an article, in which he shared some quotes from Moore.

The former West Brom boss said:

“We had to reshuffle the pack because George had a foot injury in training, Liam had an ear infection.

“We’ll look at Liam, George and Jack. Alex and Mallik are back, and Cam should have finished his protocol - so we hope to have four or five bodies to the good.”

The return of Alex Mighten and Mallik Wilks, after they were cup-tied in midweek, will also be welcomed by Moore, as well as Cameron Dawson who can come back onto the bench after his concussion injury last week.

Crann's tweet suggests that both Palmer and Byers could return for the game against John Coleman's side, which would be a huge boost to the Owls' chances of picking up three points on the road.

Palmer has started all but one of Sheffield Wednesday's games in League One so far this season and is ranked as the fifth-best performer in Moore's squad according to WhoScored, so it will definitely be a boost to have him back at right-back, especially if Jack Hunt is still missing through injury.

Byers has also been an impressive performer at Hillsborough this season, with his three goals and one assist in the third tier helping him to a strong 6.90 average rating from WhoScored, which ranks him as the sixth-best player so far this season.

Therefore, the 48-year-old manager will surely be delighted to have the duo potentially back in the side for this weekend's game, where victory is needed if the Owls want to keep pace with Plymouth and Ipswich in the automatic promotion spots.
