Glasgow Rangers have enjoyed a strong return to action after the break for the 2022 World Cup with three wins 0ut of three in the Premiership.

Michael Beale has a 100% record in charge of the Ibrox outfit as it stands, after beating Hibernian, Aberdeen, and Ross County in the Scottish top-flight, and will be looking to continue that against Motherwell on Wednesday.

However, the head coach will be without veteran central midfielder Steven Davis after the club confirmed that he will miss the remainder of the season due to a knee injury.

Davis played 25 minutes in the 3-2 win over Hibernian earlier this month and that cameo may now turn out to be his final appearance in a Light Blues shirt, as his contract is set to expire at the end of the campaign.

The 27-year-old, who has played 360 matches for the club in all competitions throughout his career, has featured in 13 matches for the Gers across the Premiership and Champions League this season and the Light Blues manager may now be on the lookout for a replacement.

Beale's first chance to bring in his own players to Ibrox is on the horizon as the January transfer window opens on Sunday and this means that the English coach may use the market to find Davis' heir in the middle of the park.

However, the former Aston Villa assistant manager could save Ross Wilson millions and forget about using the January window by unleashing Charlie McCann.

The 20-year-old has been an unused substitute in all three of the club's Premiership matches since they returned from the break and he could be an internal replacement for the Northern Ireland international.

McCann, who has been capped by England, the Republic of Ireland, and Northern Ireland at youth level, has produced four goals and one assist in six appearances for the B team in the Lowland League and Challenge Cup combined this season.

The youngster, who journalist Josh Bunting described as "very sharp" and a "real natural" number eight, has been pushing for a place in the first-team and has been rewarded with one assist in those matches.

He also caught the eye in two Premiership appearances last term as he completed 85% of his passes and won 75% of his duels in 70 minutes of action for the Gers.

Beale must now hand the former Manchester United midfielder a chance to impress in the Scottish top-flight in the coming weeks as he has the potential to be the club's Davis replacement, for this season and potentially beyond.

It will then be down to McCann to prove that he can deliver consistently impressive performances at senior level after catching the eye with his goals for the B team - saving Rangers millions by doing so.
