Glasgow Rangers end the first half of the 2022/23 campaign as they travel away from Ibrox to face St Mirren in the lunchtime Premiership kick-off.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst's men are currently seven points behind their rivals in the top-flight table and have a chance to cut that to four before the rest of the clubs play their games over the weekend.

However, a defeat could send them into the World Cup break 10 points behind Celtic and the mounting pressure on the Dutch head coach could convince the board to make a decision on his future.

Therefore, he should be desperate to pick up all three points against St Mirren and he may look to alter his starting XI from the scrappy 1-0 win over Hearts in order to do so.

James Sands was withdrawn at half-time in that match and the manager revealed, after the game, that it was due to a knock, that is unlikely to keep him out of action this weekend.

Van Bronckhorst must now be cautious with the New York City FC loanee and leave him on the bench. This will allow him to finally unleash Glen Kamara from the start in the middle of the park, hopefully helping him to rediscover his best form.

He has not started a match in any competition for the Light Blues since the 4th of September against Ajax in the Champions League and the head coach should now name him in the XI after the blow to Sands.

The £21k-per-week gem, who was previously tipped to be a "monster" by Steven Gerrard, has the quality to be an important player for Rangers in the Premiership.

Kamara averaged a SofaScore rating of 7.01 in the top-flight for the Light Blues last year as he completed 91% of his attempted passes and made 1.7 tackles and interceptions per game.

Sands, meanwhile, has averaged a score of 6.88 and completed 89% of his passes - making the same volume of defensive contributions per match - in the division this season.

Therefore, the Finland international, who his former manager Neil McCann once claimed is "made of iron", could offer slightly more than the American midfielder if he is able to get back to his best in the Premiership.

He has proven that he can provide consistently impressive performances at this level but he has not had the chance, with two starts in the league this season, to find his rhythm, which is why van Bronckhorst must unleash him today to see if he can recapture his mojo.
