An update has emerged on Glasgow Rangers and their plans for the upcoming January transfer window next month...

What's the talk?

According to The Scottish Sun, the Light Blues are monitoring St Mirren central midfielder Keanu Baccus ahead of a potential swoop for the gem.

The report claims that he is being eyed up as a possible target for January as Michael Beale and Ross Wilson are working hard to identify targets to bolster the squad.

It is stated that St Mirren are unlikely to stand in the Australian international's way if the right offer comes in, although it remains to be seen how much they are going to demand for their star midfielder.

Glen Kamara's heir

Beale could bring Baccus to Ibrox to be Glen Kamara's heir as the current Light Blues central midfielder may be on his way out of Glasgow in the coming weeks.

French sides Marseille, Lyon, and Nantes have all been credited with an interest in signing the Finland international and his form in the Premiership this season suggests that it could be the right time for him to move.

Kamara has averaged a Sofascore rating of 6.69 across 11 appearances in the Scottish top-flight. The former Arsenal man has completed 84% of his attempted passes and made 0.9 tackles and interceptions per game in the middle of the park, with his average rating indicating that his performances have left a lot to be desired as he ranks 22nd in the squad.

Baccus, meanwhile, has averaged a score of 6.83 in 16 Premiership outings for St Mirren and made 3.6 tackles and interceptions per match.

Journalist Josh Bunting described the gem as "impressive" and a "focal point" during his time in Australia with Western Sydney Wanderers and he has carried his form over to Scotland with his solid displays in the league this season.

The 24-year-old, who played four matches at the World Cup in Qatar for Australia, averaged a Sofascore rating of 6.99 in the A-League for Sydney last term - completing 83% of his passes and making 4.4 tackles and interceptions per outing.

He is a ball-winning midfielder who could add steel and quality to Beale's options in the middle of the park. His form in the Premiership indicates that he could be an upgrade on what Kamara has offered throughout 2022/23 so far, both in terms of his general performances and his defensive contributions, and that is why he could be the Finnish dynamo's heir in January.
