ExWHUemployee has revealed that West Ham United are likely to search for an unemployed manager to replace David Moyes if he is sacked.
What’s the word?
Things have not been going very well for the Hammers of late. Indeed, they hover perilously close to the relegation zone after a poor run of form that has seen them lose their last five Premier League games.
As a result, unsurprisingly, there has been talk that Moyes could soon be sacked. For now, though, the reporting suggests that the board will continue to back their current boss.
Still, if he is to be fired in the near future, it sounds as though the club will target someone who is already out of work instead of trying to poach another team's manager.
Indeed, Ex told The West Ham Way podcast: "The exact quote I got, which I put on Patreon, was: 'We back the manager. There are no obvious replacements available. If David Moyes was unemployed and we looked to change the manager, he'd be the exact person we bring in'.
"Now, I believe the key part there is the 'unemployed' section. That shows that, really, they'd only be looking to bring in a manager who was out of work.
"Which therefore does narrow down what your options are to replace David Moyes, but that is the situation."
Jobs for the jobless
According to Daily Mail (via Football365), if Moyes does go, the likes of Thomas Tuchel, Mauricio Pochettino and Marcelo Bielsa are all names to consider for the role.
This certainly tallies with what Ex has reported – as all three are currently out of work. Even so, it remains to be seen if any of them would be attracted to the project at West Ham.
And, of course, most importantly, Moyes is still very much in charge and is yet to be sacked. However, it really does feel as though he must pick up some points in their next run of fixtures.
In the coming weeks, the Hammers take on Leeds United, Brentford (in the FA Cup), Wolves and then Everton. Should he fail to convince the board in that period, they may well start eyeing up the likes of Tuchel and other unemployed coaches.
