Everton's interest in a Premier League winger has now been reaffirmed...

What’s the latest?

That's according to Fabrizio Romano, who suggests that Anthony Elanga remains a player in whom Frank Lampard remains interested.

He took to Twitter on Monday afternoon with this update: "Borussia Dortmund have explored the conditions of loan deal to sign Anthony Elanga from Manchester United, it’s concrete as reported by @talksport... #BVB Understand player side would be open to Bundesliga move, Everton are also interested. Decision up to Man United. #MUFC".

This comes three weeks after the first mention of interest, referenced by the Daily Mail.

"Phenomenal" to watch

Although it may seem like an uninspiring signing, adding another Red Devils outcast as they did last January with Donny van de Beek, this one promises to be far more lucrative for Everton given how young, hungry and eager to impress the 5 foot 10 Elanga will likely be.

Furthermore, the Sweden international has also played at a level far beyond most players in the Goodison Park dressing room, which is astounding given that he is just 20 years old.

The youngster has made just five starts in the Premier League this season and therefore is seeking additional game-time elsewhere. Meanwhile, the Merseyside club has had to endure some rather poor performances from Anthony Gordon, Dwight McNeil and Demarai Gray.

Therefore, injecting some young blood into the squad in that problem position is a no-brainer. None of the aforementioned Everton trio has scored more than three goals this season, which is a damning indication of why the Toffees currently sit second from bottom in the top flight.

Meanwhile, Elanga has proven to be a threat when thrown into the United team, achieving four goal contributions in 21 league games last season whilst also scoring in the Champions League knockout stages.

It was his goal against Atletico Madrid which led journalist Alex Turk to tweet: "Anthony Elanga. 19 years old. Brought on with 15 minutes to play whilst United weren't getting a sniff. Keeps his cool in huge moment. Phenomenal talent."

The great Zlatan Ibrahimovic even praised his young compatriot whilst issuing him some advice, stating: "A great talent, we are proud and happy that he comes from Sweden... He has all the future ahead of him, and if he continues just as he has done, it looks positive.

“It’s just fighting, never being happy, striving for more. It depends on him, how far he can develop.”

Boasting pace and skill in abundance, and being hitherto removed from the toxicity surrounding Everton right now, those factors make him a viable option for the Toffees, especially given the financial restrictions under which the club are operating.

What will likely have also interested Lampard is the work rate of the Swedish youngster, who remains in the top 20% for tackles made by wingers in Europe's top five leagues over the past 12 months despite his desperation to be a threat.

It is this desire to cause problems, matched with a workmanlike attitude, which would surely make him a fan favourite on Merseyside, and he could be the catalyst towards Everton securing safety if the club can land him from United.
