Everton have been one of the clubs mentioned as a potential landing spot for the West Ham United striker, Michail Antonio, this month.

What's the latest?

The struggles on Merseyside worsened over the weekend after the side bottom of the table, Southampton, came to Goodison Park and went back to the south coast with all three points to their name.

It was another miserable afternoon at Goodison which saw tempers flare after the match as the frustrated fans shared their anger through various methods.

And it seems the club are on the search for a new striker this month with the Toffees being linked to the likes of Ben Brereton Diaz ahead of the window.

But it seems a new name has emerged as a potential option this month in Antonio from West Ham with TalkSport's Alex Crook claiming Everton were mentioned to him recently as a potential suitor:

"I think there is a desire on his part now maybe to look for a move away. I know that Wolves are interested - that, I'm told, would appeal to him. Everton [were] mentioned to me last night; they're in desperate need for some reinforcements."

Is this what Everton need?

Everton's struggles at the top end of the pitch are there for all to see this season with Frank Lampard's men only netting 15 times in their 19 games thus far.

There will naturally be blame pointed in the direction of Dominic Calvert-Lewin who has struggled to find his form in front of goal having returned from his latest injury issue.

In almost 600 minutes of league action, the Englishman has only been able to find the back of the net once and is a five-game run of games without a goal in the league.

But this is not aided by the rest of the side with the wingers taking on some of the responsibility in front of goal with Demarai Gray leading the way with five goals this season.

But their struggles are perhaps summed up when Conor Coady is their third-highest goalscorer this season with a mere return of two goals.

And you do have to question whether Antonio is a player who could come to Goodison Park and hit the ground running given his own struggles this season.

The Jamaican striker, hailed for his "brilliant" performances in the past, has undoubtedly proven an issue for defences in recent times, however, his recent form is pretty underwhelming - albeit having been demoted to a spot on the bench for large parts of the season.

But this season he has a return of just two league goals in the 831 minutes of Premier League action he has played under David Moyes this season.

And given the club's current relationship stands with the fans, you do have to question how this potential move would be greeted b the fans.
