Tottenham Hotspur may have been handed a potential stumbling block in their reported interest in the Brighton & Hove Albion forward, Leandro Trossard.

What's the latest?

Since the start of the week, there have been reports emerging claiming the north London side have been expressing an interest in the 28-year-old from the south coast.

The Belgian is believed to have until the end of next season now remaining on his contract after the Seagulls activated a one-year extension amid this month's transfer window.

However, it has now been suggested that although the 28-year-old would be open to a move away from the Amex Stadium this month, if push comes to shove, he will not force a move away from Brighton.

This has been suggested by the insider Graeme Bailey who has been speaking on the latest episode of the Talking Transfers podcast:

(35:10) "The player isn't necessarily gonna agitate for a move. We've been told that from people close to his camp but you know I think if bids come in, they are eager for Brighton to listen."

Tricky deal for Trossard?

From what Bailey has suggested during the podcast, it does sound as if a potential exit from Brighton has been touted by the player's agent who has been offering him to a number of different Premier League sides.

And given his agent has reportedly been so active in trying to find his client a new club, it is perhaps surprising to hear that if it came to it, Trossard would not be willing to force his way out of Brighton.

And this could potentially cause a major issue for Spurs if they are hoping to land Trossard this month on the back of the news that they have activated the extension clause in his contract.

Going into the window, Trossard only had a matter of months remaining on his deal, meaning this window offered Brighton their final opportunity to cash in on the player before potentially losing him on a free in the summer.

However, now it would appear as if Brighton will be in no rush to sell one of their best-performing players this month given he will still have one year left on his deal come to the summer transfer window.

And this is where Spurs could potentially do with some help from the player if he wants the move.

Trossard has been in sensational form this season for Brighton so it would only be natural for the Seagulls to be keen to keep a hold of their seven-goal Belgian.

But if the player is willing to sit back and allow any potential exits to unfold in front of him, this may make a move to north London become a lot trickier for the Lilywhites to pull off.
