Newcastle United have been labelled as a club to watch in the final days of this transfer window over a potential move for Anthony Gordon.

What's the latest?

The Englishman has now been linked with a potential move away from Goodison Park for a number of months.

The likes of Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur were both linked with him over the summer, with big money being put on Gordon's head, as Chelsea were believed to be willing to pay around £60m for the 21-year-old.

However, it appears as if a new club has entered the running with Dan Ashworth believed to be a big fan of the Evertonian youngster amid this month's window.

This is according to journalist Alex Crook who has been speaking on TalkSport about the possibility of Newcastle making a move for the 21-year-old before the window shuts next week:

"Newcastle is the one that I've been told to keep an eye on. Dan Ashworth, their sporting director, is a big fan of Anthony Gordon.

"Eddie Howe hinted, didn't he, last week when Chris Wood went to Forest they wanted to bring in an attacking player, someone who would excite the fans. So I would keep an eye on that one in the final what nine days of the transfer window wouldn't surprise me if Newcastle made a bid."

Big move on the horizon?

It is apparent the Englishman has certainly caught the attention of some of the biggest clubs in the country already with Chelsea linked over the summer to a mega move for the youngster.

However, it does seem as if the potential signing of Gordon - hailed a "special talent" by Adebayo Akinfenwa - would be on the back of his potential rather than what he has actually produced for Everton.

It is worth saying that he is playing in a poor Everton side who - for the second season running - are battling in a relegation scrap.

But Gordon's output for the Toffees has to be questioned when he is being linked with a £60m move and has failed to provide a consistent output of goals in the Premier League.

So far this season, Gordon has only been able to return three goals in his 16 Premier League appearances and only one of those goals has come since August (via Transfermarkt).

And across his 35 league appearances last season, the winger only provided the Toffees with four goals in the top flight. So it does seem any possible suitors are eyeing a potential project with Gordon.

But Eddie Howe has shown he could certainly be that man with the 45-year-old producing miracles behind the scenes in turning Miguel Almiron into the player he has been this season.

So it does seem as if Newcastle could potentially provide Gordon with a base to develop his skills and progress in his career.

However, it could depend on what type of money would be required to prise him away from Goodison Park this season after such big figures were brandished about last summer.

The Toffees could certainly view Gordon as an option to free up some money to improve their squad this month, but it could be money which Newcastle are not prepared to part with this month.
